“COMEDIANS IN POWER” AWARD TO GIORGIO FALETTI
The Jury of the 41st edition of the Political Satire Awards has decided to honour Giorgio Faletti with the special “Comedians in power” Award, an acknowledgement to the successful actor and writer and a way to relfect upon the role of Italian comedians, that are often considered more reliable than politicians.
Just think about Dario Fo, Nobel Prize for Literature, or Roberto Benigni, who won an Oscar Award for the movie “La vita è bella”, or Beppe Grillo who gathered a large consensus in a country where many professional politicians wore the mask of actors of a tragic farce; or Crozza, who is even imitated by the politicians he mocks.
We live in an upside down country , where comedians talk about politics and ethical issues while politicians have turned into comedians and sometimes their answers have become so ridiculous that they make us laugh bitterly.
Giorgio Faletti’s career has been multifaceted and successful, from tv personality to bestsellers’ author, valued by people and critics, but the comic sense is still an integral part of his way of being.
Giorgio Faletti is an italian author, musician and songwriter, a multifaceted artist who never stopped proving his talent in exploring different arts. As a comedian, he left a deep mark crating a series of unforgettable characters who were protagonists of some successful tv shows. Over the years, he also gathered consensus as a musician, and in 2002 he debuts in literature. The novel “I kill” tops the charts in Italy and sells over 3.500.000 copies, becoming one of the biggest hits of recent years. In 2004 “The killer in my eyes” confirms Faletti’s talent as a novelist. His book has been translated in 25 languages and published with great success in Europe, South America, Chile, Japan, Russia and, since march 2007, USA and English speaking countries.
In 2005 Faletti received from the President of the Italian Republic the De Sica Award for literature. In the meantime he keep of working as an actor: in 2006 he is professor Martinelli in “The night before the exams”, gaining a nomination at the “David di Donatello” as non-leading actor.
Other novels published by Baldini Castoldi Dalai Editore: “Outside an obvious destiny” 2006, “Few useless hiding places” 2008, “I am God” 2009, “A pimp’s note” 2010.
Einaudi published the novel “Three acts and two strokes” (2011) and “From then to now” (2012) ,a “novel of a lifetime” where Giorgio Faletti tells his love story with music, with the help of 2 cds: “Quando” (“Then”), where he performs songs that he wrote for other artists, and “Ora” (“Now”), with 12 brand new tracks.
